i have kde run at 1600x1200. I also have my computer boot up to a graphical login screen where i can login into kde. Now, if i login directly there, then kde will start at 1280x960. However, if i go to command line login and login, and start kde w/ "startx," then kde will be at 1600x1200.

What other files might be effecting this besides xf86config-4?

.xprofile, .xsession.....what is your default setting in /etc/X11/XF86Conf?

i have no .xprofile or .xsession files. And in my /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file, 1600x1200 is the first option.

Also, if i boot through the normal kde startup, hitting ctrl-alt-+/- wont ever get me to 1600x1200. 1280x960 is viewed as the largest available size.

Look in your KDE control center for setting the KDE evironment.
