anyone care to offer some tips, particularly getting through the installer or with network issues they had ?

be ready to install a lot of packages after the install unless you like bare-bones. since it's only one cd for the download edition you dont get a whole lot.
it was a very smooth install for me though.

Suggestion: During the 2nd stage of install (after the reboot), there is a point where it checks for Graphics cards. By default it simply chooses a setting for you and assumes that this is okay. Be sure to run the configuration of the graphics card (which includes the monitor setting and several other items). Most importantly, run the test to see if these settings work out. When I first installed it, the default graphics settings were so far above the manufacturer's settings that I could not use any graphical environments properly. Perhaps this was not a problem for anyone else though.

What were you planning on using to burn the ISO? I'd reccommend k3b.

Also, just try burning it with default settings. If it works, you've got a CD. If it chops the file off at 700 MB, you've still got 98% of the CD.

Direct CD? I thought that was for writing UDF CD's. Or am I thinking of something else?
