Hi. I am using Debian. I just installed off of the cd's a day or two ago.

I have the intel 810 chipset graphics driver PV1.1

I am trying to get KDE to work.

I use the following command to configure:

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

I am given a list of video card drivers to select from.

When I use the i810, I get the following message:

Fatal server error:
AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0

When I use the vga driver, KDE works, but everything is absolutely ridiculously huge when KDE starts.

Any suggestions?

what do you mean by huge?

and what is exactly your problem? KDE wouldn't install or KDE looks funny or video driver not there?

KDE is installed

When using the startx command, the error message in the above post appears when i810 driver is selected.

KDE will works when the vga driver is selected, but everything is huge... so big that it is difficult to see enough at any time to do anything.

Try the vesa driver for now. It should work as a temporary solution.

Try the hwd link in my signature. That may help.....

Vesa starts, and looks great. but the system shuts down during the splash screen.

I get this message:

Fatal server error:

Caught Signal 11. Server Aborting

Then a little farther down the screen is this message:

Xinit: Connection to X server lost.
