Where exactly is the icon tray where certain apps are shown? Example: I had GAIM running, and minimized it.. but it simply minimized, whereas the effect I was trying to achieve was for the window to totally vanish, and have the GAIM icon near the clock or something like that. I've seen it before, I just don't know if it's an option I need to turn on or something.

This was with Dropline Gnome 2.6.1.

You want the "notification area" applet. Just add that to your panel.

ya, you also need to make sure gaim's systray plugin is enabled.
