OK, I'm a little confused about themes (I'm using Dropline Gnome). When I look for themes, I see themes for GTK, Metacity, and GDM. I'm not sure what each of these does exactly... though I think the GTK themes are the window decorations.
Can anyone elaborate on this? Also, on a side note, if anyone knows of any tutorials that explain how to create your own window decorations, splash screen, and login screen, that would be killer. :) Thanks.

GTK: Contents of windows (buttons, scrollbars...)
Metacity: Window decorations (the "frames" around windows).
GDM: Login screen.

Have you had a look through the Theme related sites in the '*nix Window Manger and Desktop Environment Links (& theming sites)' sticky thread? I'm sure some would include tutorials/guides.
