RedHat RedHat, seperate the Red and the Hat. Toss it around and you get HatRed. Guess it's hatred for MS? Going by that sig, I wonder if this is a troll. is this a troll?
Hacking Linux Exposed (http://www.hackinglinuxexposed.com/samples/hlev1-chapter1.pdf) is a good overview of linux security. It's a pdf file. It is just chapter 1 of the guy's book.
http://www.nic.com/~dave/SecurityAdminGuide/SecurityAdminGuide.html is another good overview.

Linux isn't more secure than Windows. An operating system is only as secure as the admin makes it.
That being said. I (and many others) believe that Linux is more secure-able than Windows. Check out some of the great links that have been provided to you from other posts.

Being that yongbeng is a long time member and I personally feel it is a legitimate question (especially about requiring assistance for a proposal), how could it possibly be trolling?
Come on people, are we not getting a bad enough reputation without us jumping on 'questionable' threads without first thinking about it?

Just for the idea purpose. Linux was designed with security in mind. Windows wasn't.
just my 2cents.
and its a bad day when half the mods are just evil to the trolls... and when was the last time that a troll mentioned that they searched...
I'd recommend reading into the beginnings of Windows, and some of winNT, and compare those ideas to the *nix ideas...

;)
Those are pages about (the lack of) Linux viruses, but some of the points raised are generally applicable to security as well.

thanks mdwatts...thanks for standing up for me though i can't really understand what excatly is the meaning when they said this thread is a troll. cuz i belong to the south east asia region. sorry that i didn't quite get it. anyway..while.. I google thru the net and justlinux trying to find out more why linux is better than windows just purely in terms of security issues..and the most i got of it is that most viruses and trojan attack windows only..it's like such viruses are only "compatible" with windows.
but i needed more detailed stuffs. not just some website telling me that linux is better becuz they are more secure and full stop! i need to know why. issit something to do with NetBios. (if you do follow my other thread which happens to be related to this proposal).NetBIOS Thread (http://justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=129196&goto=newpost)
while..I haven't read thru the links that was given to me but i surely will now. thanks guys..hope all those help. and now..the proposal gotta that i putting up would be how does worms affect the system which i believe can be easily found on the net. :D
thanks once again everyone..also a special thank you to mdwatts..

One of the main reason is that linux is a true multi-user system. If a user downloads a trojan or a virus on Linux (let's pretend there's as many viruses and trojans for Linux as Windows) it can only effect that user. The rest of the system requires root permissions. Windows is not like this. If a user ends up with a virus it runs with full permissions on that machine. Obviously, a virus running with full permissions is much more dangerous than one that isn't.

But alas, Windoze is still filled with damn annoying loopholes.
No.1 big annoying: shutdown.exe, used to remotely shutdown computers. These days fellow schoolmates have been wrecking havoc with this dumb tool, and hindered the work of many teachers. if these teachers were wasting time its ok, but some of them really want to teach or do work...
This is known by M$, for even the damn M$'s firewall (actually a paperwall) can block it. If its for admins of course its a good utility, but even users/guests can remote shutdown is insane!
Then comes all the design stupidities -- many a time if an installation procedure is hindered, many computers will fail to function stabley or even boot up, forcing poor admins to have to format the fresh installation for another round of terror. If you admin only one or two, you probably could take it, but we have hundreds to a person ratio... Arrgh!!!
Even disc cloning is a chore -- ghost walker sometimes will go cranky and the windows installation for admins, sysprep, makes you remember the cd key by hard.... And ghost doesn't have all the drivers and need [ghost 8] 2 diskettes -- its very slow!
Last but not least, after installing windows, admins have to manually install proprietary drivers from cds....
