I purchased a linux for dummies 3rd edition and with it came redhat linux 7 on three cd's. So I install linux and the resolution is like 1024x768 on a 14" monitor (almost impossible to read) so I am looking for the way to change it and after about 80 minutes my eyes hurt too much to read any longer. I would love to learn linux but if I can't get the resolution changed then forget it because at that resolution I litteraly am sitting 7" from the monitor to read it. I did happen to read something about using linuxconf but you have to be logged in as root to get it to even show up because it is not at programs > system > linuxconf under my regular log in. I suppose what I am asking for is the way to log into root from the desktop (not using a terminal) so that the linuxconf app will show its self. By the way, I tried logging in as root in the terminal but the linuxconf app still did not show. Once I get into that app I am under the impression that I will be able to change the resolution in there. If not please tell me how to do this (log in as root on gnome desktop, and change the resolution) because I am so sick of windows that I installed linux on my hard drive wiping out my XP install. So this is all I have and I refuse to go back to windows.
Thanks,
Jera
