Welcome to linux and Justlinux. I'm not trying to be mean but I'm closing this thread and pointing you to a site which has a lot of the answers you are looking for. When you have a more specific question, feel free to post it. Such broad general questions such as "how do I install software in Linux" is best answered by reading the documentation, much as you did in Windows.

Each distro should have documentation on their site that explains their package management system and how to install their packages.

For source (tar.gz etc.), have a read of our Compiling Software JL Help File.
