What "really cool, awesome" features do you really like in Linux? I guess we could expand this to just really awesome things (about linux, not just about features)...

Starting off, I really like having terminals. Especially when they're translucent. Especially when somebody sees you and goes "*gasp* you're hacking, aren't you!?!?!"

First of all, I can't say much about futures I like, because I just get started using linux, but I like the look, I like that it is fully custamizable (not sure how to spell it). Its free, it comes with lots of useful packages. It's community.

And thous transparent consoles are realy cool! :p

Of course, why do you think my post count doubled in the past month? :D

The transparent terminals are cool, but in a way I hope we never get true transparency like Mac OS has. I've had to use one of those for the past couple of days and I miss being able to set a dark background and then have my terminals completely transparent. With the Mac trans. if you have a bright window behind it you can't see a thing. Of course, I'm sure Linux developers will allow you to use either method once it becomes mainstream.

I also like the fact that you can make your computer look just about any way you want. All the WM's give you so much control over the look and feel of your computer, it's nicer than any other OS I've ever seen (which is limited to Win and Mac, unfortunately:)).

Ahhh... but this one is different, you see, because it's by ME! :p Seriously though, this one is about something different.

And I'm pretty sure emerge is actually faster than going to the store, buying something, coming back and installing it.

HA! You haven't compiled OpenOffice or KDE lately, have you?

Well, there are exceptions....

It's funny that my kernel compiles faster than my office suite....

Well, if I were being anal, I'd point out that then you're not really compiling, but I won't...oops.:D

linux package managment...whichever (yum, apt, etc.) you like

I'd have to call package management my least favorite feature. I'd call it more of a misfeature... but it is getting a whole lot better lately! Just think of the difference between RedHat 7.1 dep. hell vs. emerge / yum / etc. Even pkgtool is better than old RPM distros....

Since I went linux, I learnt to send mail by telnet to smtp servers.

That is something we could do in windows or macs, but I learnt that in linux so....

The package managment and the ability to use a file/program after it's been deleted.

Some days ago I had a problem with connecting to my machine's X server from a laptop because XFree was compiled with the ipv6 support and Cygwin's X wasn't. Because I had to recompile X I decided to switch to X.org at the same time.
The cool thing was that my cousin was using the machine while I changed the X server remotely. He didn't even have to log out from KDE.
He could only start konqueror while there was no X installed though, because it was precached in memory and other programs failed when trying to dynamically link against X libraries. When X.org was installed, everything worked again.
If the time with no X installed had only been some seconds then the user would probably not have even noticed that the entire graphics system was being updated. :)

Thats not fair -- office suites are unimportant in efficiency -- the human is always too slow compared to them, so binary office suites are OK!
