I've been tossing the idea around of buying a 17" LCD flat panel display, but I don't really know which brands are good and which ones I should stay away from. Anyone have any suggestions? Would any of these monitors have problems being used under linux? Thanks for the advice.

MaximumPC reviewed LCD's for gaming purposes which would be a good benchmark as you do not want "smearing" in games (when the images leave a trail) , ghosting, and blurring which are indicators of pixel response time.
1. Samsung 172X-the best 17" DVI/VGA
2. Planar 170- analog only (VGA) and the cheapest
3. Dell 2100FP- a 20" DVI/VGA $900 MSRP
were 3 out of 8 that passed their tests.
If you have a graphics card with a DVI output, use it. Unless you have a DVI output or are planning to upgrade your graphics card, go with the Planar.
MYself, I am sticking with my 19" CRT which has good text resolution at all sizes, good gaming performance, and costs a whole lot less.
