Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Games are freezing with FC1
High graphical games like enemy-territory, quake3, ut2004 are all freezing after maybe 5 minutes of play on FC1.
I have an Nvidia GeForce FX 5600 pro, and I have the nvidia driver installed. I havn't been able to run any of them through terminal to find any errors, because I can't view the terminal window after it screws up, so I havn't been able to diagnose the problem much.
Has anyone else heard of this happening?
Ah, well I found the problem; it appears that Fedora Core is a memory hogger, I only have 256, and FC is taking up all but a 100-or so megs of that, and all these games take at least 128 (perferbaly 256) to run.
So more memory is on the way :D

not sure what you have for a hard drive, but if you have the available space, you may want to make your swap partition 512m, that would solve the memory issue, at least in the short term, I run all those games with the same configuration, without any problems.
might atleast hold you over until your memory comes in :)

My swap spave is already 512, but its not using much more than 10 megs of that during normal use. But when playing a game, I'm not sure.

Then you shouldn't have memory related crashes. If you don't have enough memory it might run too slow, but it should actually run. Sounds like there's another problem lurking there somewhere.

For kicks, run a game for a couple minutes (exit before it crashes) and check the terminal if there are any errors
Also check dmesg, there maybe something going on in the hardware level that may have some hints...
