i was wanting to buy PDA/pocketPC. i don't need color screen, but shades of grey would be nice. i don't want it to be 160x160, but 320x320.

it would be mostly used to view documents, PDF and HTML files. preferable linux or palm OS, but windows would do. any suggestions?

and can PDA's have anti-aliasing?

I have a tungsten c, so I know mostly about palm products. Just about a month or so ago, palm discontinued their last like of b/w pda's. However they have been replaced with some good entry level color screen pda's. They are the Zire series. Check out all of palms products here. http://www.palmone.com/us/products/
I reccomend palm products, especially if you want to sync w/linux.

I just ordered the Palm Zire 31, 16MB, color screen, SD/MMD card slot, $139 with free FedEx Saver shipping. Also, check out Kpilot's page for updated news on synching with the 31. Plays MP3's, and has ebook capability.
Found it even cheaper:

OOPS! Just noticed your needing a bigger resolution....

I have a Clie PEG-SL10 (I think) It's B/W, and has a 320x320 resolution. Fonts look really nice on it. It has 8 MB of memory, but can be updated via memory stick.

No clue on reading PDFs, etc on it. It's rarely used by me.

the Clie PEG-SL10 sounds excellent. does downloaded palm apps work with it? how's the battery life?

any more alternatives? and can microsoft pocket pc OS sync with linux?

I downloaded a couple apps to it using Palm Desktop, and they seemed to work (a couple of games, mostly). I really just use it for your basic calendar/to-do/contact list.

The battery is where things get a little odd. I believe it runs on a single AAA battery, and has decent, if not good life considering, but if the battery runs out, you lose your data (this doesn't happen when changing batteries). Overall, for the price I paid, it's been a good buy. You can get them real cheap on eBay too.

Edit: Specs, per Sony:

Battery: Up to 20 days using Sony Alkaline batteries LR03 (at average of 30 min use per day backlight off) Memory StickŪ Camera

It's really an intro-level PDA, and I don't have it with me today - But it runs Palm OS (4.1), so any Palm OS App should run on there, including the document viewing stuff. And the screen is pretty sharp - 320x320 is much better than some of the other models I've seen, that's why I bought it.

I don't think it has a headphone jack.
