Hi all,
I have 2 really weird problems in quake 3 and urban terror.
1. if I dhcp (in Debian dhclient) but my ADSL modem-router is not connected, I cannot start quake 3. This means that I can't play quake on my own network whereas it used to work with the router being online so I can play online.
The weird thing is that if I then kill quake (Ctrl-Alt-F1, login, killall quake3, killall quake3.x86) then go back to X and kill the dhcp (i.e. release with dhclient -r) and restart quake, it works fine.
Of course, this defeats the object here which is to play on the network.
When I say "quake doesn't start" I don't actually get any error messages, I just get a black screen.
2. the second problem is that I can't run any mods from the main quake menu.It complains about some menu file not being found. I have even opened up all the permissions and I know I have all the files that are needed so it is strange.
In fact, the only way to start a mod (say, urban terror) is to copy the main pak file zQ3UT3 to the baseq directory and start quake as normal because it will start the mod by default.
Any ideas? TIA.
