I never had looked into this before, but I am impressed by the WinXP command line tools.
There is even "more' "find" "finger" and Ctrl-C even works!
I am now a WinXP guru since I know the commandline in WinXP. Anyone need a consultant? :DWinXP Commandline reference (http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/ntcmds_o.mspx)

Wow, I'm surprised that they even acknowledge the existence of the command-line, with as much as they've been trying to do away with anything DOS (including DOS programs:mad: ).

Well, the XP command line has nothing in common with DOS other than a few similar basic utilities. It's a full 32-bit command line environment like a *nix shell rather than the 16-bit environment in Win9x.
Of course, the Windows command line falls miles short of *nix even with the XP improvements. Windows Server 2003 is slightly better. From what I hear, they intend to put out a version of Windows that can run with no GUI at all, so they will really have to improve their command line for that to happen. I'm not sure if this is in the future for 2003 or if it's a Longhorn thing. They are responding to demand from sysadmins and it's targetted entirely at disrupting Linux.
Either way, right now I am installing a GUI-free Debian server. I'm not going to wait for MS to finally come out with a GUI-free server OS when I can do it right now. By the end of the summer I'll have replaced my last Windows server with a Linux one.

There is even a 'ipconfig' (is that right?) that I had to recently use (ipconfig /all ??) to get the wireless cards MAC address from the gf's XP box.

Yep. It's by far my most used XP command line tool. Back when we were having tons of network trouble ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew were our two first steps in troubleshooting. Heck, the command prompt was at the top of my recent programs list until very recently, ahead of Unreal Tournament and Word:)

There is even a 'ipconfig'... Yeah, and route, netstat, ping, nslookup, and, and, and...
Oh yeah- CTRL-C has always been there AFAICR.

   Because everyone would select either the
C:\deltree *.*
or
A:\format C:
commands :D
