I need to get a new hd for my Dell Inspeion 7000
running 2 os.'s off of 4 gig's is a pain in the . . .

so i'd like to get one around the 20 to 30 gb size.

the cheepest ones i'le found were around $100US. that's more than i;d really like to pay for one.

Where on the net can i get a good deal on one of those 2.5 in drives?

Newegg.com has them in the $75 price range. You might also keep an eye on bensbargains.net every day for a few weeks. That site catches some pretty crazy "one day only" type of deals.

Creative Labs (http://cgi.ebay.com/Fujitsu-MHT2060AT-60GB-2-5-Laptop-EIDE-HDD-Hard-Drive_W0QQitemZ8708871799QQcategoryZ99249QQtcZphot oQQcmdZViewItem) has a 60gig unit for $70 + $2.99 shipping. I have bought about 8 drives from them so far and have been very satisfied.

I've been shopping for a new HD for my own laptop -- getting read errors when I run smartctl --test=long /dev/hdx

2.5" Toshiba 40GB 4026GAX 5400RPM 2.5" ATA Hard Drive, 16MB cache
from the research I've done, this looks like a very promising make and model -- low noise/low heat, good G tolerance, lots of cache (the slowest RAM is still orders of magnitude faster than the faster hard drive), good MTBF

Price (Canadian dollars mind you $89.95):

I often go to the dealunion.com (http://www.dealunion.com), maybe it can lead you to what you want.

Well, considering I posted that 2 years ago, i has since given up on carting that dinosaur (in ever sence of the term) of a laptop around, and use the 30 Gb Hitachi I got 2 years ago in an external harddrive enclosure...

It makes for a good 30 Gb jump drive. it's still small compaired to my 0.64 Tb raid on my desktop.
