I am currently using college linux. I first tried it at school and everything was working great so i decided to give it a try on my home computer. Once i got everything installed i go to boot up and my internet is not working. I have 2 nic cards and to ethernet ports onboard for a total of 4 ports. I use one of the nic cards which is 3 com for my internet connection but can use whichever one i want. I am also connected to the internet through a dlink di-604 router on a cable connection. any ideas where to start on this one?

this is distro dependant... but may help with your problem.
you incomming internet connection must be in the last port.
ie
eth0
eth1
eth2
eth3 <-- this one would be incomming internet connection.
for some reson some distros wont work any other way by default.

Moving to the Networking forum where you will also find lots and lots of previous threads that contain all sorts of ethernet card etc. troubleshooting suggestions.
Please try those and report back what you have tried and the results.

College Linux is based on Slackware IIRC. Your eth0, 1, 2, etc. numbers are determined by what order the modules for the NICs are loaded - first one is eth0, second is eth1, etc.
Check to see what is in /etc/rc.d/rc.netdevice
