I'm in the market for a cheep laptop and someone i know has one for sale
Dell laptop, don't know the model, about 4 years old.
350mhz processor
64Mb ram
6GB harddrive
Includes:
PCMCIA NIC
PCMCIA modem
1 battery (still good)
transformer
port replicator
Price: $250.
It has win98 on it, but that can be fixed rather easily. everything on it is in workig order, just slow.
Is this a good buy or not? If not, how much do you think it would be worth?

my friend got a 800 mhz thinkpad this summer for $500 CDN and it came witha cd/dvd-rom drive no port replicator but they're useless IMHO

In my opinion, $250 is not a Good deal. I would recommend not paying more than $200 for it, seriously.
Anyway, you could probably find a better deal at ebay. (www.ebay.com)
(Also, you could just tell the guy you found a better deal on ebay, but you'll still buy his if he wants to sell it for $200. He'll probably go for it.)

$250 is a little steep., IMHO.
If he had a second battery, I'd say that's fair. There's no telling when that battery will go out. Sepero's right; he'll probably bite on $200.

a lot of it has to do with brand of NIC card, modem, etc that can really stack the price. If it were 128mb memory I would say go for it. 200 sounds a bit more reasonable though.
Also, I find that though they're slower, those PII (I'm assuming) CPU's are very stable cpu's, so that would be good in that sense. Maybe see if you can scratch something more off of them.
