DSwain 04-10-2004, 01:46 PM do you mean burn a file so it boots off the cd? Dark Ninja 04-10-2004, 01:47 PM I'm not sure that actually can be done... ...CDs that "boot up" are CD images (ISO is the most common extension). mdwatts 04-10-2004, 01:48 PM Originally posted by elitewhiteghost How can i burn a exe file so i can burn it on a cd to boot up on a windows os?I burn it and don't boot up on the windows os. Huh? You want to burn a cd that contains a exe and have Windows automatically execute the exe when booting from the cd? Perhaps a 'autorun' in the cd root directory that contains the path and name of the exe. I did that a couple of years ago for a cd to go out to our insurance brokers. A friend at work wrote the program (exe) and I setup the autorun, Word & Powerpoint viewers and documentation. Also moved to /dev/random since this is not a Linux related question. carbon-12 04-10-2004, 01:53 PM Maybe you have to extract it first. Try using wine. DSwain 04-10-2004, 01:58 PM but what is he asking to do? does he want to make a bootable windows cd, or what? elitewhiteghost 04-10-2004, 02:03 PM I try to burn Dev C++ onto a cd for a freind so he can start to learn to program.I use ing gromecdtoaster.I want to make the dev C++.exe so it can bootup on his pc. El_Cu_Guy 04-10-2004, 02:03 PM Program load when you insert the CD.... autorun Bootable CD... Burn the image For future reference this is a Linux forum. Now if you wanna know how to burn files to a CD in Linux but use them on your Winbox that's another matter. Sounds like you are asking us how to bootleg a program? elitewhiteghost 04-10-2004, 02:17 PM I try to boot the cd on my borther laptop but it won't boot.I did the sameway how i boot my linux.iso onto cd. carbon-12 04-10-2004, 02:36 PM http://www.tarma.com/products/index.htm#/products/autorun/ This seems to be what your looking for but it only works in windows :( elitewhiteghost 04-10-2004, 03:11 PM One thing i don't understand i can burn it on my linux but it well not boot on a windows opc that wearid i think.Maybe i download from his pc. DSwain 04-10-2004, 04:39 PM that should be as easy as burning the installation file with the cd on it, and writing and autorun file for windows, assuming this is what you're installing it for. I believe thats all DevC++ supports anyways, so that should make sense. Then it should work. Either that, or they can go and open up the cd drive and open the file, not so difficult. EnigmaOne 04-10-2004, 05:03 PM Unless I miss my guess, you want to burn a CD with a bootable windoze environment...which is necessary to run the Dev C++ application/IDE/complier? Is Dev C++ even a native windoze application/IDE/compiler? DSwain 04-10-2004, 10:00 PM yes, it is, and as far as i know (knew) it was Windows-Only XiaoKJ 04-10-2004, 11:50 PM Dear Sir, This is a very funny, if not stupid question to ask. 1) You have asked a question in the first place that is broken. It does not reflect what you want to do. On first thought, I was thinking like the other helpful posters out there that is you wanted to burn a bootable CD so that it boots up your PC. However, you actually wanted a autorun CD so that it runs atuomatically when you put into the CD drive in Windows. This shows that you only want a autorun.ini file in the CD so that things like a customised icon and autorun feature will be in. Please try to post clearly next time. Put in some other CDs and learn from their autorun.ini file -- its only a notepad text file saved as .ini instead of .txt 2) I think you have gotten it wrongly, in reality programs like the one you wanted do not run as only one file. It requires all the other files to run. Thus, you cannot copy the dev-c++.exe file to the CD and expect it to run. You will need all the files and you will need to install them for it to run. Make sure the file you want to burn is an installation file or it will be stupid to run the file. I also use Dev-C++ and it is nice I know, but please be informed of this. Please do not get angry as I treat all posts as if they are idiots. This is not to provoke anybody as it is only for confirmation of my ideas to be put across. I want to be as clear as possible. Thank you. elitewhiteghost 04-11-2004, 12:08 AM I don't think this a stupid question and i not upset. And is is not funny. XiaoKJ 04-11-2004, 12:15 AM Erm, sorrie for saying this stupid... But do you get whatever I tried to get over?(not trying to condemn you again...) Have you burned the CD with autorun.ini and the installation file? EDIT: My interest is in getting things done... elitewhiteghost 04-11-2004, 01:27 AM I didn't do that yet.I am not sure how you do that with gromecdtoater. bwkaz 04-11-2004, 07:32 PM You don't do it with any Linux burning program. You do it with a text editor. When you build the files that will end up going onto the CD, you need to put the autorun.inf (not ini, inf ;)) file in the root of the CD drive. Look at other autorunnable CDs' autorun.inf file for guidance on the syntax. Then, you create the .iso and burn it to the CD, just like you always would.
