Netcraft (http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph?site=www.justlinux.com)
has some surprising results. way to go to Justlinux
Jupiter/internet.com/Justlinux=longest 267 days
Microsoft.com=lomgest-106 days
Redhat=longest-26 days
Suse=longest-496 days
IBM= cannot collect info on AIX
Debian=longest-375 days
Novell-cannot collect info on Netware.
Not sure if this proves anything, not sure if it is a reflection on administration, OS, hardware, or just pure luck. Something to do while you're waiting on the mailman. :)
(excuse me-I meant mailperson)

I was checking out Slackware, this host is running BSD-
http://nixed.ath.cx/
longest=1704 days.
But if you read the FAQ on Netcraft, on linux and some others, their report resets to zero after 497 days, so it's not really a long term indicator. And what I'm thinking Redhat probably got reset, maybe microsoft also.

Anyone else find it troubling that many of these have not been rebooted? Uptime is a great indicator of stability...but kernel updates/patches require a full reboot...
This only makes me worried about the security of these servers, considering earlier this year a Gentoo repository was compromised and a few weeks later there was anothor major Linux server that was compromised (I want to say Debian or SUSE...too lazy to check right now :))
Seeing Red Hat's uptime low like that, tells me that they maybe doing the updates...which to me is a good thing

But in the FAQ, they point out that with a server "farm" they are just measuring the general uptime, an individual machine can be rebooted without losing the "uptime".

A farm...now THAT is cool!!
Herd the chickens and milk the pigs! Yeeehhaaaa!!! :p
Seriously, the server farm makes that much more impressive and reliable. And considering netstat only measures general uptime (site availablitiy), it's good to know that these sites are available like that...I wonder what mine looks like...?
No uptime available...bah! I guess that's what I get for using a shared server provider :p
