Proxy server set tighter then frog's butt

Well as many have seen I have been quite active on this board for a while now. Trying to help where I can and learning new things all the time.

Well work has tightened the controls on the proxy server. Actaully they are using a smart filter and it blocks a bunch of sites based on key words catagories.

So the most I can see on one of my favorite sites while at work it the front page. Not a single forum post.

I'm not going anywhere just look for a bit less activity from me on the board.

Dam there goes that goal of surpassing mdwatts in the all time post catagory.

Edit: Now, I use Linux to telecommute, and our products are a mixture of more and more Linux with Solaris, so I have justification to come here. Don't get in trouble. :edit

Thanks for the tip. I doubt I'll use it often.


I didn't have time to check the other forums that help me out with mysql, php (starting to learn it) and VB (everything in the shop runs on MS)

I hope those aren't blocked also. I might be able to get them to lift those if they are.

Whew!!! That was a little too close for comfort. I thought I might have to resume my 10-12 hours a day again here at JL just to barely stay ahead of you. :p

Those IP addresses may not work, either. Proxy software has the ability to grep out certain terms in the URL, like the word "forum", or "email", for instance. The proxy I'm behind here at work does the same thing.

Thankfully, since my company sells Linux, they leave this one unblocked :cool:

Alex, yeah they are parsing the urls for cretain words and blocking.

mdwatts, I'll continue to post. It just won't be the same number per day it was before.

What about the middle character of 'forum' to a hex code or the like? :P

I'm curious, can you surf to windows, macintosh, solaris sites? Is it the word "forum" that's being blocked or some other word?

I think it's the word forum. I can actually still get to the main page of JLC. If I click on forum or any of the new thread links it's blocked.

I'll have to check it out some more. If some of the other forums I search are blocked I maybe able to get the IT guys to drop those in to an allow file.
