What editor should I use for making my HTML pages. I'm tired of writing every html by hand. Oh, and I don't have a server yet.

I just realized I have Quanta Plus. Is that a good editor or not?

All of the ones mentioned are "good" editors...some with more features than others...just like distros...every user has their own taste, abilities and needs.

Quanta+ is a fine editor.

It's WSYWIG isn't as powerful as NVU or Mozilla Composer which are close to one in the same.

Mozilla Composer handles stylesheets better than DW MX or Front Page. Quanta's WYSYWIG doesn't do stylesheets yet.

Depends on what you want...

WYSYWIG's are too clunky for me personally. I use Quanta+ or Screem, usually Quanta tho and use the code so I get what I want.

I'll be watching this thread.

I spend most of my days in Dreamweaver but its only available for Windows/Mac. Its a fantastic program that I'd love to see ported.

Syngin,

I thought they were doing a port of Dreamweaver. I saw mention on here a while back about FlashMX (not the viewer, but the design suite) being possibly ported. I know I'd like that.

BTW Nvu is working well for what I wanted it for. A bit more power then she has ever had, but she is actually working well with it. she isn't the most computer savy, but she is willing to learn. Next time I format her hard drive it's gonna be a dual boot with slack and windows (she needs it MS for school)

Go to http://www.frankscorner.org/ and look up the info for DW w/ Wine.

Thanks for the Franks Corner link. They've even got info on running Photoshop under Wine. This should be an interesting weekend.

Oh, for reference, the Dreamweaver/Wine info is here. (http://frankscorner.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=26&page=1)

I forgot IBM's Websphere.

You might check it out too.

I tried the windows version for free.

Pretty nice but for the type of stuff I do I didn't find it necessary.

I tried WebSphere, but didn't like it. It weights tones (+- 800 mb) and runs slow and buggy on my redhat box (xp 2200, 256 ram).

I was searching for alternatives and found this thread. I will give a try to Nvu, looks nice at least!
