I want to try running Linux on one of my older PC's (Aptiva PII). I am running a dual boot Win98SE and Windows 2000 on one hard drive (10 gig total)

I just installed a second 6 gig hard drive, in which to install Linux Redhat 9 but am having problems.

I boot under the CD disk 1, it starts the installation fine, but when it comes to the section about partitioning, it shows disk one with 2 gig and 8 gig partitions and the 2nd drive as 6 gig, but the system freezes up. I have to power off/on the PC.

I have tried this over and over a few times, using different options, but every time it gets to that screen where it is supposed to start the partition, it freezes.

My first question is, should this work? 2nd hard drive installed, while the 1st (primary) drive already has a dual boot with Windows OS'?

Is there another approach I need to do?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Peter.

Yep, should work. Do you know the second drive is ok? Have you set the drive jumpers correctly? Are both drives properly showing in the bios? Do you know the linux cd is good?
Just areas to check. :)

Yes to all the questions. The drive is recognized in the BIOS and under Windows 2000. The CD is also good, because it has been used for an install (don't know if it matters, but the CD was also tested during the first stages of the installation).

Sorry, but I forgot to mention that on the disk partitioning screen, the mouse still moves, but I cannot select anything. I can't even scroll down the HELP screen on the left.

THanks.
