The last time i Installed linux and (I had windows installed too). When I rebooted, after the installation, it booted into windows. Does a boot disk make it boot into linux?

If so can I make a boot cd?

Thanks for answers or help ahead of time.

so you had windows installed, then installed linux, right?

When linux installed, where did you put the boot loader? On the MBR or the /boot partition?

Sounds like you put it on the /boot partition, which, if i understand it, left the windows boot manager intact.

3 options:

1. reinstall linux and put boot loader on MBR and have linux manage your boot process. It will ask if you want to boot windows or linux at boot up.

2. Modify your windows boot.ini file and point it to the linux install as well as the windows. It will ask if you want to boot windows or linux at boot up.

3. Create the "bootdisk" you asked about and use the floppy disk as your boot loader.

or 4, reinstall linux and remove windows all together!! Just kidding.

Hope this helps a little.

why dont you install grub abd map both the windows and linux partition to that. Then you have both available without to many probs.

You do not even have to move/reinstall windows. OR reinstall linux.

Look for grub docs it is very simple, must be I do it all the time!

Try this link

I prefer this method although the author has different opinion,
in my view is better to leave the windows to manage the bootloaderhttp://linux.siprell.com/2_4/dual.htm

What distro?

You could boot your linux with your install disks and then install the bootloader it comes with in the MBR.

However, it might be easier to re-install it.

Read what happybunny said. I'd take optiion 1.
