Hi everybody --

What do you guys have for your Grip=>Config=>CDDB ??

My DB server is http://www.freedb.org
CGI path is empty.
Perform CDDB lookup automatically is checked.
Proxy is set to the same as other apps.

I hit the Initiate/Abort CDDB lookup button and nothing happens. Anyone have a clue?

Thanks!!

What happens when you just rip a cd and do not push any buttons- I thought grip automatically did the lookup. You may be aborting the process. And make sure you have a /home/user/.cddb directory.

This is my setup, and it works fine, as long as I'm connected to the internet when I pop open Grip. (I'm on dial-up)

DB server "Freedb.freedb.org"

CGI path "~cddb/cddb.cgi"

DB Submit email "freedb-submit@freedb.org"

Db Character set encoding "ISO-8859-1"

Use freedb extensions "checked"

Perform disc lookups automatically "checked"

Hm. That wasn't it.

What version of Grip are you using? I have 2.96.

I don't suppose that /home/[user]/.cddbslave is the same as .cddb, is it? That's what I have, not .cddb.

I also don't have a db character set encoding option.

Lemme go see what the newest Grip is.

Okay. I found a newer version on Grip that I want to install. Here's a silly question: my other version of Grip was installed when RH7.3 was installed. I found where it lives -- /usr/share/doc/grip-2.96.

If I want to uninstall the old Grip before I install the new one, is it as easy as just wiping out the /usr/share/doc/grip-2.96 directory? If not, how do I find where the rpm is so that I can uninstall it?

Thanks for your help!! :)

rpm -e grip

That was it! I didn't realize that I could just throw the program name (instead of the package name) at rpm.

Whew. New grip installed, db lookup works!

[although I suspect that has more to do with removing 'http://' from the front of my proxy server than the new install. go figure.]

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier, but I was at work and didn't remember which version of Grip I had on this box. 3.1.4 if you're still interested.

Glad you got yours working. :)
