i noted when i booted gentoo that is is EXTREMELY graphics based i dont like graphics ruling the computer, similar to not liking the windoze xp boot screen with the scrolling bar

how would i go about installing gentoo with out this flashy look to it?

Ummm, when I installed gentoo I installed from an existing distribution and didn't have a GUI until I manually emerged pekwm which in turn emerged XFree86... I believe you're referring to the LiveCD tho. Gentoo is all about customization if you don't want a GUI you won't have one.

[Edit] Assuming you're doing a Stage1 install (can't imageine doing Gentoo any other way) When you actually install you'll bootstrap the system and from that point on you have total control. you emerge system. then you pick what cron daemon and syslogger you want. and you have a BARE system. you have to do all the work after that.

The pretty crap is only on the livecd, once you have it all installed, its normal.

go to www.gentoo.org and _read__the_documentation - it explains everything... and gives urls to download mirrors for the CDs.

go to gentoo webpage and look the handbook
spent some time reading it, and then install the gentoo
but you have to be patient
you will probably try at least 2 times before you succeed!!
But importantly spend some time reading the handbook it is easy

Of course all depend on the level of optimisation that
you want
