Well I dl'd mandrake 10 community edition, was thrown for a loop when it asked for a 4th CD that I didn't have. Luckily, I read these forums to find out I didn't really need it.
Well the install is chugging along and I get to what seems to be a very hard lockup issue at the moment when it wants to install the bootloader.
I thought it was just taking a little time to do it but after and hour and seeing that my mouse no longer functioned(cursor frozen in place) I decided to re-install.
That wouldn't work everything froze up and the CD would not eject. I had to slick the HD again and start from scratch only be taken back to the bootlader issue.

Is anyone else having these isues or knows a workaround?
Any information is greatly appreciated.

Are you tryin to install the bootloader to the MBR or a boot partiton? Have you tried lilo instead of grub or vice versa? Have you got PnP aware OS disabled in the BIOS?

If installing the Linux bootloader in the mbr, do you have the antivirus option enabled in the bios? Disable if you do.

Try to install with the following options:

linux noapic nolapic

Mandrake 10 has been causing many problems with funky BIOS implementations of APIC especially on Athlon/Nforce combinations. This is what finally worked for me.
