Hi guys!

I'm using DamnSmall Linux, but it seems that I'm not succedding in anyway! So far what I'm able to do on DamnSmall Linux (DSL) is play PacMan and play some muic on it, nothing else! I can't even make my modem work! As U can tell by now I'm a beginner in Linux!

However I came accross another Linux distro that I thought would be best for me: Peanut Linux! But I'm doubting on it! So guysI was wondering what U guys think about this suggesstion! Would U recommand me to try it or to stuck with DSL? Is it better in anyway? Besides what is Peanut Linux based on?

If U think that I should try another disto good for a newbie that U have in mind, please feel free to express urself!!! However the thing is that I need to use a small distro so that my PC can manage with it (As U can tell it is a junk Compaq Presario with 48 mb ram and AMD k6 233 mhz and 2 gb HD).

thx guys! I know U won't let me down! So far this is the best forum for the Linux community!!! Keep it up!

I know that you're a newbie, and that you might think that distros like Debian and Slackware are a bit beyond you at the moment, I would suggest going for one of these.

The documentation to install these are getting better and more newbie-friendly by the day - especially Debian.

With these distros you decide what to install based on the specification that you have. I have Debian running as a webserver on a PII 233 with 32MB RAM and I used to have it on my desktop with GNOME and KDE. You decide what you want to install.

Im on Slackware at the moment and I have only really been using Linux for 6-8 months. Other than this I think that there's another Linux mini distro called BBC which might be of use.

Just some suggestions anyway.

HTH

Have you also checked:

For help with your modem driver

As for RH 7.2 - it really depends what you install with it. You wont be able to use any of the main window environments like KDE and GNOME, but you could install fluxbox / openbox etc.. and run that as a window manager.

I'm going to go with stay with DSL.

You have some problems that can be solved with a bit of searching.

What kind of modem do you have? It's probably a winmodem and Linux doesn't like winmodems. Depending on the chipset you might find drivers for it. So know what kind it is will help you with a www.google.com/linux search.

There are tons of posts on these forums about getting modems working also.
