Hi Everyone,
Just found out that nvu.com is offering free lindows download. It's the Lindows 4.5 Developers Edition, regularly $50.

Visit this site ('http://www.nvu.com/landing_page.html') on instructions on how to download the files from the lindows website. The size of the file is about 600 mb in .iso format,

Hope you find this useful.

Wow, second one in 10 days :D

Get it, download it, install it...have fun!

There were very few problems with this that made me remove it from my laptop.
I have 4 distros on it, when I installed Lindows...it took over.
Install this on a dual boot system with Windows or by itself, don't play fancy with it...unless you use it's LILO config. Every time it boots, it updates the MBR with it's own LILO config...overwriting my GRUB, that was the last straw for me :)

It defaults to a GUI install at 1024x768 resolution, great if my laptop could run at that res (display blacks out, it's 1400x1050 native and doesn't like others) I had to enter diagnostic mode and manually edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 so I could install, minor headache...not terrible (but a boot option would of been MUCH nicer)

Install is simple...I mean simple as in one cell organism simple. You have two options when installing
Basic - Take over the entire hard drive
Advanced - Take over a partition

besides the "which partition" in the advanced install...that's it...nothing else...it's installing...period

BUT! For someone that wants to experience and learn Linux, this is a great system for them. Almost all hardware in detected automatically, it does give you options to setup users and passwords at first run. It has an extremely loud and well done help flash video when you logon (they provide these flash videos as help files)
For a newbie, get this. For experienced users, get this.

If you don't like the OS to take over and deem total control...DONT get this

It's basically Knoppix with some additional hand holding.

Just thought I'd mention:

The nvu 'coupon code', used at Lindows registration time, should give you 'insider' status with Lindows.

Last I checked, this gives you free downloads of:
Lindows 4.5 Developer's Ed. iso
Lindows 4.5 Full Installation iso
Lindows 4.5 Live CD iso
Lindows 4.5 Espagnol iso
which I checked out for myself because...well...because that's what I do for my customers--see what their options are, and tell them about 'em.

Since I'm not going to use Lindows personally, I won't be paying for it...personally. On the other hand, 4 or 5 of my customers reviewed the LindowsLive CD and think that the full install of Lindows 4.5 is right for them, at least at this stage of the game.
They'll be paying customers, mainly for the Click-To-Run support.

Thanks Insanity Clause. Got the BT going now.

You know, I was never too keen on Lindows (despite having never used it) until I read an interview with one of Lindows top executives a couple of months back. Man, I was really blown away with all the money/support they put into the linux community, which we all get something out of.

They put a lot of money in Wine (which I don't use) but now support the KDE-look and KDE-apps websites. Also, their nVu program looks like it will be fantastic.

I really hope I can get my hands on an old PC to test it out on.

GRRRR......

I missed that in my evaluation of Lindows. Thanks for mentioning it.

Is it just me or does the original post in this thread look more like an ad than an actual post?

First and only post? The increasing number of these appearing all over message forums? Looks fishy.

Sorry, Insanity Clause, I don't want a crippled version of Debian. I want Gentoo.

I agree it does look a little fishy but in my eyes even if they do work for Lindows, who cares? If someone was even slightly interested in Lindows now they can get ir for free. It may be advertising but is it any diffferent than Trogdor/homeobocks always telling everyone they should use gentoo (not that I necessarily disagree with him). Just my 2 cents.

I know you can download anything from IRC but I thought people here might be interested in trying out Lindows legally. And just for the record, I don't like Lindows nor do I work for them :)

Did anyone try this version yet?
The last time I installed Lindows, it froze halfway through the install and refused to finish the install.

Fishy is exactly what I though too, but I can not see how this can be a bad thing for people here...even if it makes this Insanity Clause a couple bucks...

I can't really tell much on this...what do the others think?

I don't think he's making money on this. I posted the same link and I am not. So if you are making mony of this, let me know so that I too can sign up for it. :D

This was posted on slickdeals.net a while ago, so I think its genuine.

Just my 2 cents.
