In my graphic design class we use Power Mac G4's and recently I extracted all of the icons from the computer that I could find, converted them to .PNG's and everything worked perfectly...

I downloaded an icon theme from the net, tested it to make sure it worked fine, and copied the directory structure exactly (well except for the difference in sizes like 128x128 & 48x48.) Then I came to the index.desktop file and thought, no problem. I modified it to display the new title and author and all the updated directorys.

I then packaged it up into .tar.gz format and loaded it with my theme manager and it doesn't work correctly, actually at all.

Can somebody please help me out with this index.desktop file, is there a tutorial on making it, or maybe a magic trick I don't know about? Thanks.

I don't know of any index.desktop tutorials. You could look around www.kde.org and www.kde-look.org and some of the other theme sites mentioned in the sticky thread at the top of this forum.

I already have looked at kde-look.org and kde.org, I found a HOWTO at kde-look.org on making icons. I read through it throughly and it doesn't display anything on making the index.desktop file... Do you or anyone else have experience with it? Could someone post a very basic example of one that I can learn and work with?

Alright, let me double check on one thing... I need keep my icon names the exact same as the other themes I have installed, correct? Same directory structure and all, then use this, modify to my info and save... Then I just package it up in the .tar.gz format right? Thanks mdwatts, I appreciate it!

I've never done what you are attempting, so I wouldn't know if that is correct or not.

Anyone else know?
