envision monitor and modeline problem?

I installed redhat 9 on a new computer and hooked up my new envision EN-775e 17" monitor. After configuring X I reboot and all I get is a black screen that says "out of range". After I scroll thru the screen resoloutions with ctrl-alt-+, it starts working with all of them.
Is my computer not skipping past the invalid modelines on starting X?
Where are the modelines kept on redhat 9?:confused:
I don't see any modelines on the XFree86config file
I used xvid tune to show me the current modelines. and i am wondering where they should go

You can specify the modelines either in the Monitor or Modes sections of your X config.

Have a look through the XF86Config manpage (man XF86Config) for descriptions and suggestions. Searching G4L for 'xf86config modelines' will find plenty of examples.
