Strange problems. Can't run kmail. Gnome 2.4

This just started last night, after I used mandrake update and installed a bunch of security fixes. I can't seem to get kmail to run at all. I click the icon nothing, I run it from the console, nothing. It appears in the list of running processes, wichi I have killed, and tried again with no luck.

Also when installing software, it tells me I need libraries that I already have installed, and when I try again it lists something different, and then again lists something else.

Anyone have this problem before?

One last thing, I imported a few things to my PKG_CONFIG_PATH last night.. Could that have something to do with it? Is there anyway to restore it? I can't seem to find this as a file anywhere so I'm not sure.

Alright well I got kmain working by adding the command:
kmail -caption "%c" %i %m

Before it was just: kmail

I'm not so worried about he rpm problems at the moment, but there is one more problem. I cannot logout, shut down, or reboot from the gmome menu. When I try it just hangs, then I have to switch desktops and reboot from the command line. Where are the settings that effect this?
