I'm using KDE 3.2 and using lprng as my printer daemon, I'm using KDE to configure my printer (Let's face it, I'm lazy after setting up a freeBSD CUPS / etc Server) -- And it refuses to use hpijs, any way to cram it down lprng's throat? -- (If i scan for cups servers i get the server, but the printer isn't shown... could it be cupsd.config? -- I doubt that because The printer works with windows Boxes...)

Thanks for your input.

actually, it does work, but only as root, what permissioning could cause the problem of disallowing normal users printing to a socket:// printer?

Try using http://localhost:631 to configure CUPS as there should hopefully be a option to set to allow all users to use hpijs.

It isn't an HPIJS issue, it's a cupsd issue of not allowing normal users print, a reason I'm not sure of...

Did you try the CUPS configuration using http://localhost:631/ ?
