Probably misuderstanding but it looks like foriegn for 'Linux compatible'.:)

CompTIA has a lot of name recognition in the certification biz. Linux+ is probably the easiest Linux certification to get though. Most people agree LPI Level 1 is a bit harder.

Agreed- LPI is a more heavy-duty cert (and the test will be harder than the Linux+ test), but any CompTIA cert carries some weight, including Linux+. The highest-level Linux cert in the industry is the RHCE cert, but many people consider it one of hardest computer certs to obtain- the test is supposedly very in-depth and thorough.

If you want to go for the Linux+, there are plenty of practice tests and other exam prep resources online; just Google for them. It certainly can't hurt to have it under your belt.

Here's a possible money-saving tip as well: When I attended last year's Linux World Expo in San Francisco, CompTIA was offering free Linux+ testing for all registered attendees. LWE or other similar Linux "trade shows" might still be doing that.

Frankly, all certifications are good. Some may not be used in consideration for the position you are applying for or say salary review (ie those old free Netscape Navigator certs). However, it shows that you took the time to test your skilll level and achieved that certification.

I have 6 test at my school already paid for,
Im just trying to figure out what I have time for, they have the Sun Solaris 9 certification there but im not exactly the best with unix. I tried installing freeBSD......didnt go well.
Working on my net+ right now, the area that im in is heavy in MICRO so im going to take my MCSE exam, then LINUX+, then mabye SECURITY+.

Another option for a vendor-specific Linux cert is Novell's CLE. They list LPI Level 1 as a prerequisite in their 5 day course overview. The course costs $2000 though and if you're not already a CNE you'll probably need the eDirectory course too, another $2000. :( The interesting thing is it's a completely hands-on test, there's no written portion. :o http://www.novell.com/training/certinfo/cle/index.html
