...if some company started touting Linux as much as Windows in print and on TV for mass media? If there were some cutesy little thing like the Intel logo flashing at the end of every commercial with the little chime? If the ad acted like, "our systems are powered by Linux(TM) Technology," as if Linux support was some basic requirement for a fully functional computer?

I think people familiar with WinTel would flinch until they realized it didn't include anything about Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) support, but a lot of first-time buyers or tech illiterates would end up thinking Linux(TM, of course) was some must-have feature.

More people, a lot more, would start using Linux. Would they be able to, or would they get into trouble?? If answer is 'Yes, they'd be able to' then it'd be an unqualified good thing.

Personally think amber buttons set into the metal silver, with desktop of animated lake bordered by moonlit trees, seen through your own window (on which rain may be made to play) with the gizmos disguised as a tastfull loadspeaker system and the clock a carriage clock. As apposed to the suicide inducing buttons etc. of Windows. Is a huge selling point.
