Sorry - EXTREME newbie question. I've been using GNOME, but now I've switched to KDE and I don't know how to start a terminal window! :P
Please help!

maybe the right-click menu? otherwise, use "run" to run "kterm" or "xterm"

Yeah, that leads me to another question. When I first installed Mandrake about a month ago (not with all packages installed) I had things like GIMP, Mozilla etc. in my menus. When I installed other things - ie. dev tools and games etc. a lot of things in my menu disappeared and changed, although I still have them, GIMP for example not in the menu anymore, but is still installed.
Any ideas?

KDE usually includes lots of terminal programs. Look in your KDE menu's.

My distro adds a Konsole icon to the panel. (picture of a terminal)

Yeah, I'm guessing my KDE is buggered, so I'll be checking I have all of it's packages as was suggested in another thread.

Mandrake 9.1 puts the terminals in the main K Menu folder called, cleverly enough, "Terminals" :-) If that is one of the menus that disappeared on you, then try the Mandrake Control Center (assuming you can get to it) and look under System. You should see MenuDrake, which will let you customize your menu and you should be able to add Konsole to the menu somewhere. Just tell the item to run "konsole".

I'm not sure why your menus would have disappeared when you installed things. Sometimes when I remove something it gets rid of a folder on the menu because it's not needed anymore. Is it possible that you logged in to KDE as root or some different user when you installed some of these packages? That's about the only thing I can think of. HTH.
