Got my tax refund and got a eVga Nvidia 5900SE video card for $189 at newegg-evga 5900se (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?DEPA=0&submit=Go&description=evga&searchdepa=0&page=2&listStyle=2)
Installed it this morning and WOW! had a 5200 with 1800-1900 fps in glx gears (normal size console) and now its 8900-9000 fps. This is with the nvidia driver I had installed already, no tweaking.
Here's a review from Hothardware (http://www.hothardware.com/hh_files/S&V/gffx_5900xt.shtml)
Also take a look at some of the buyer reviews on the newegg page.
Now what should I buy next? Any recommendations are welcome. Maybe a nvidia2 ultra mainboard?

With my i getting a new dell 5100 with a penintum 4 2.80 cpu speed.:)
Mine is unfortunately all going to pay off bills. Of course, this leaves more money to do other things in the coming months since I'll no longer have the $350-$400/month credit card payment to make. Credit cards are evil but I had no choice :(

This assumes that someone is getting a tax refund. I'm owing an additional $1,400 on top of the $15,000.00 I already paid!!! I wanted a new laptop but nope, that with that kind of dent in my disposable income!

You need some more kids. Maybe Enigma One can lease you some of his. :)

How about if I change the title to ' What to buy mdwatts with our tax returns'? :p
I'm still waiting from late last year for the $2500.00 which I'm supposed to get after I was *cough* audited for 7 years of taxes.

Is that Canadian or US dollars? So you're really getting $1250 in "real" money. :D

Isn't that a 20% exchange now? Quite soon we will be using your greenbacks to wipe our ____'s. :p

Hey you send me the US twenty dollar bills and I'll send you some Charmin-a lot more comfortable. (Just don't squeeze the Charmin, please). ;)

For the last 5 years the wife and I have been totally responsible with our tax returns. Saving for a house or putting money into the house. This year the wife (the level headed one) said lets split it down the middle and go on a shopping spree. Woo Hoo!!
I bought the kids a 17" monitor.
I bought the wife an MP3 stereo for her car.
The rest was for me, me, me.
120 gig hard drive.
DVD burner
2.4 gig shuttle (for the family room)
network adapter and another controller for the PS2
XP Pro (sorry)
telescope (I'll let the kids use that too). :D
Still got some money left I'm thinking of getting another 120 gig hard drive.

With mine I'll be getting rid of my credit card's and possibly a decent down payment on a car for the wife.

Ours will go toward paying down more debt. Until the debt is gone, most of our "new" hardware consists of handmedowns from family who have to get new stuff to upgrade their Windows.

I just bought a new 100 MBit ethernetcard for 15 bucks (wooohooo) and a SuSE 9.0 Home Edition for my dad. In a couple days I'll treat myself with a DVD-RW and my gf will get the LOTR book for Valentine's Day (ain't that romanti? :) ).
The problem is: my taxes are still due in April. However, as a poor student my taxes normally already pay off with the withholding tax that is automatically taken from me. :D

5 at home and 1 in grad school (when she's done with her doctorate, she owes me some serious baby-sitting)...I call it temporary insanity!
It *did* end 5 years ago. :o
Actually....I love my tax-deduc...er...adorable children.
As for me, I was *forced* to spend my half of the refund on replacing the P/S, M/B, uP and memory. Fortunately the drives and I/O cards survived the power supply's spectacular demise.
When my ARs clear the bank, I'll put that with the refund left-overs and do some serious discretionary shopping.
I do need a bigger cabinet, and the w/c system *is* making a bit of pump noise...yep! I can almost hear it running. ;)

I have yet to figure my taxes.
As a Marine who spent more than half the year in a tax-exempt combat zone, and with three kids, I think I'll make bank!!!
