i was trying to clean out my gentoo system a little bit today, you know, remove some of the stuff on my computer that i don't need. my question is, i use fluxbox exclusively, but i have kde and gnome libraries on my system... can i safely remove those, or do i need to keep them for gtk and qt and the such?
on a similar note, is there a way to list the packages that are installed on my system in gentoo?
thanks in advance...

I don't think you need kde and gnome for gtk and qt. I'm pretty sure you don't. Remove them, and you always can add them again.

Gentoo must have something in their online documentation on what command(s) to use for displaying installed packages.

if you remove KDE and Gnome
you can't run any programs created for those
two desktop environments..
that would be about all of all the usefull desktop programs for Linux down the tube.

Well if you install your apps through portage, itll compensate for the losts libs and install them too.

I'm not totally sure about Gnome, but you only need kdelibs and qt for KDE applications. And you'll need kdebase for Konqueror and other basic KDE applications.
