I Just got A Sound Blaster Audigy LS sound card for my system. It worked great on the windows side of my box, but my Mandrake 7.1 side won't recongise it.
So where can I down a linux Driver for this card? m preferable in an RPM format. I'm not to good with other stuff yet. or what ever is the easiest for a linux idot (like me) to work with.
Thank you for your help.

Update Mandrake to 9.2 or some new version, 9.2 does support the SB Audigy, i have one installed and it works fine.
the drivers for tha tcard are in ALSA - which you may compile against your current 2.4.x kernel; as well, they are in the 2.6.x kernel series because ALSA is no included.

This card is currently not supported. Check out this thread:

the newer distros do support audigy.
but hell redhat didn't build native support for audigy till rh9 release.
so compairing that with mandy 7 you may have to do what i did in redhat 7.3
which is compile and install the newer version of emu10k1 drivers from: http://sourceforge.net/projects/emu10k1
your sndconfig should then recognize the audigy card.
here is a lite step through for the audigy 2

I myself do have a Audigy 2 working today in Linux. But, the LS appears to be a different model and the emu10k1 driver does not support this card unless something has changed in about the last week or so. Which is possible.

I beleave that my distro came with emu10k1 and that file is croaking on my card.
note: i'm not near my linux box at the moment, bot that emu10k1 does nount like the driver it's trying to load and failing on. i'll post again in the morning with more details.

i could download the 'drake 9.2, but does anyone know for sure whether or not that realse supports the Aduigy LS?
if it doesn't, it would be a lot of waisted time at school downloading it ot to mention the 3 CD's to get it to my box.

I don't think it is going to. This has nothing to do with the distro at all. Your wasting your time installing them if your hoping it will fix your problem with your sound card. It's important to remember that hardware support in Linux has NOTHING to do with the distro. It has to do with the kernel. If your hardware isn't working with the kernel (which has the driver available in it) it isn't going to work. Not trying to be rude of course, but place emphasis on this idea as I have watched several people here reinstall their distro hoping to fix a hardware problem. Don't. It's a waste of time. A kernel recompile is the solution. But sadly, that won't help you at this time. It's worth jotting down in your memory though for future. Takes a lot less time to recompile your kernel and it's easy to do.
If you go to creatives web site, it will flat out tell you that there are no drivers availble for the Audigy LS for Linux. There is experimental support for the OSS driver for the Auidgy LS somewhere out there (in the latest kernel I suspect). I'm not sure where. But as far as Alsa goes, it's not there.
