Dell desktop and laptop Question

I was thinking of getting a new laptop or a desktop.Here the link.I am not to sure about the video card on the laptop and desktop will red hat 9.0 pick them driver up if i install it or do i have to download the drivers?For the usb floppy.On the desktop i am not sure what sound baster sound card if it is support by linux in the 2.4 or the 2.6 kernel.

I've never had problems putting linux on Dell systems for years now, both desktops and laptops.

For a desktop, get the Optiplex series (buy as a small/home business) and get the 3 year parts/labor warranty - next day on site. Same for laptops - avoid the home/consumer series and get the lattitude.

I do have a dell inspiron 3800 thinking of update and gettting a laptop maybe not sure yet.I have a Zero laptop case i worry if any of the dell laptop would fit.Because of the 15 inch monitors.I thought dell don't support linux on the dsktop?

I personally have an Inspiron 8500 and it works fine. Everything has drivers and works just as well in linux as in windows. I don't think you can get the 8500 anymore but I think you can get an 8600. If you want to know any specifics, I'd be more than willing to post them.

i have an inspiron 5100 and so far there have been no problems at all. everything from 3d acceleration and tv-out, to the firewire and acpi work perfectly. the only snag i ran into was getting my dell trumobile 1300 wireless card to work, but after installing the ndiswrapper, it works like a charm.

About the inspiron 5100 what hardware did you have on that laptop?What the differnt with 32MB ATi Mobility™ Radeon™ 7500 and the radeon 7500 64?

I have a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop running mandrake 9.1 and a Dell Diminsion 4100 Desktop also running Mandrake 9.1 , I have had no problems with either of them. The laptop has a Rage 128 mobility video and meistro sound . Hope this helps.
