Ive tried slackware, fedora, and suse but they all wont work.The offical nvidia drivers seem to install alright but my glxgears is only about 15fps

What seems to be the prob?
what type of mobo?
what are the outputs of
"cat /proc/drivers/nvidia/agp card"
"cat /proc/drivers/nvidia/agp host-bridge"
"cat /proc/drivers/nvidia/agp status"

what is your x config

Try making the glxgears window really small. That makes a huge difference.

I get 100fps at the default glxgears size. GF4 Ti4200.

glxgears is not a good benchmark. It's waaaay too CPU intensive. And when the nVidia drivers make a change that affects CPU usage in their driver (which they just did in 5328), plus you upgrade to kernel 2.6 that has a LOT of differences with respect to interactivity, that plays heck with glxgears.

Games (like UT2k3, Rune, Descent 3, etc.) work the same as they always did. Those should be your benchmarks.
