Ok, I finally got the drivers installed for my NIC (broadcom 4401) under RedHat 9. Ok, great right? Well, not exactly. Now, when I boot into Windows XP Pro, it sees the NIC but says that a network cable is unplugged or disconnected. What the hell??!! I`ve tried switching the plug `n play OS option in the BIOS and reverting to an older restore point in Windows, but nothing works. Any suggestions???

If your plugged into a hub or router, make sure the NIC is set to autosense speed, or match it to the speed of the hub or router.

Well, now it`s working under Windows XP, but not Linux! *grrrrr* It says it fails when Linux boots, it won`t initialize it. Any ideas??

Make sure that Plug 'n Play is turned off in the BIOS. This severly interferes with Linux detecting NICs

Also make sure there are not any IRQ conflicts.

Something I forgot to mention the other day. After you get your NIC working in Linux using the Broadcom drivers you will have to install the Broadcom drivers in Windows as well. The new driver acutally shuts the NIC down on a reboot. If you turn your PC off and then go directly to Windows it will work, then after a reboot it won't in Linux.
At least that was my experience. After I installed the Broadcom drivers in Windows all was well with the world.
Sorry,

Sorry,
MMYoung I installed the Broadcom drivers in Windows, and still nothing. I`ve disabled plug `n play in the BIOS, tried disabling the NIC altogether in Windows, etc... and still I get no NIC in Linux. When it boots it says something like "eth0 not found, can not activate" (not word for word, but you get the point). GRRRRRRR
