My P4 run about 40. AMD's do run hotter, but I think 60-70 shoudnt be that dangerous. I would recommend probabbly getting a new heatsync, Just look for a high rated one on www.newegg.com

although 60-70 may seem high to us humaniods cpu's can take up to 100c (sometimes) my athlon 1gig chip use to run 90c before it took the plunge but it was fine. i would recomend an aero7+ heatsink & fan thus no dead spot on the heat sink.

check it out at nexfan.com

I just bought a volcano 10 heatsink for under 20 bucks. I hate having to take teh fan off and on as it requires so much force but I will because this is freaking out. Was that fan a good choice, its copper so I know its going to transfer heat better than the aluminum one i have in there now. And im not overclocking by the way.

just as long as you make sure that you place enough thermal paste to cover the CORE and not seep out major youll be fine. only need to get worried when it passes 80c then houston you know the drill.. happy hs replacement

I dont' think thats a bad choice. I can understand where you are coming from about taking that fan off. But I think you are wise to question that temp. I don't think it is high. But I think you can get it lower, which will prolong the life of your CPU. You want to leave some nice cushion anyway for those times where you take that CPU to 100% load. Your temp will jump about 10 degrees when you do. Some people can keep it to only a 5 degree jump. It just depends on how well you can keep that heat away. But heat over time is what will kill a CPU. Over time mind you. But if you leave your computer on 24/7, it is something worth considering.

Yah I play games alot, so the processor load is up there I'm sure. And I almost never turn my comp off. Thanks everyone for the advice.

You may also want to get some Arctic Silver thermal paste for that heatsink.
