memory is being reported wrong size

i couldn't find any threads to help me so i posted my own. I am running slackware 9 (and loving it)
on my pc i built my self. my problem is my memory is being reported as th incorrect size. my pc specs are:

mb:Gigabyte GA-7vt600
hd:120g and 80g
video:Geforce fx 5200 (128mb ddr ram)
ram:1.28g composed of 2 512mb amd 1 256mb sticks of pc2700
cpu:AMD Atholon xp2400 (2g)
dvd rom
dvd burner

my memory is being reported as 1g.
yes my board reconizes all of my ram.

any help would be greatly apreciated.
