I'm sure there must be some Slackware users on here that have apt-get running on there systems.
I just downloaded a .tgz from http://project-csi.sourceforge.net which contained three directories - /etc, /var, and /usr.
In these dir's there are all the precompiled files for apt. As root I moved these dir's and files to there corresponding place in the system. Now when I (as root of course) try to do: apt-get update I get this message: E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (2 No such file or directory)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory, are you root?

Well i've tried a couple of things but can't get it going. The first 20 sources in the list update OK the they start to time out and then the error message.

If anyone could help me out here it would be appreciated.
Thanks.

There is also swaret. I prefer swaret over slapt-get.

You will need to install slapt-get to get it to work.

in order to do this, type installpkg /path/to/package where /apth/to/package is the path to the .tgz file you downloaded.

It should do the rest for you!

PS You can install slapt-get and swaret on the same PC, I have and it works well!

Alright, I installed slapt-get forst and I'm still getting the same errors and having the same problem. It installed fine but somethings holding it up.
So then I tried swaret, that seems to be working great, I updated it and everythings running good.
I don't know if i'll bother trying to fix slapt or not, depends on how much it bugs me. Swaret will do for now.
Thanks for all your help.

I don't mean to resurect an old post, but can anyone get to a swaret download site?

The 2 I have found

http://freshmeat.net/projects/swaret/

and
http://swaret.sourceforge.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownload&cid=1

just dont work that well.

I did get to download once, but when i tar -xvf swaret....tgz.tar, it tells me its not a good tar file.

Anyone know where i can get this?

Never mind...

when you download swaret.tgz.tar, you only have to rename it to swaret.tgz, not extract it.

thanks
