Morning :)
Just spent the last few hours hunting about for a program that will allow me to convert 1.8Gb of mp3 files to OGG's en-masse, but havent had much luck. Does anyone have any ideas what I could use?
grip, maybe?
I know it has a seperate rip and encode tab, I don't know if it will only do it from wav's though.

you know converting from mp3-ogg would result in really bad lose of quality. you take an mp3 which is already hacked up a bit to make it smaller and then hack it up a different way, loosing any sound quality advantage you would get via ogg. does that make sense? i am horrible at explaining ****

Why convert? Going from one lossy format to another means that you will lose some of the quality. You can simply start ripping now to ogg, and have a mixed collection. xmms will play both. It will be a 2 step process. You convert from mp3 to wav, then you can use oggenc to convert from wav to ogg. I don't know which util converts from mp3 to wav, but they exist. A couple of years ago, I reset and went ogg. Either way, you can create, assuming to find the 'mp3dec' program, create a simple script to convert, say 50 to wav, then convert back to ogg, and continue to process. I say 50 cause I only have a smal HD, but if you have 100 gig to spare, then let fly with a thousand. :-)
