I have a dual boot PC with WinXp and a basic Suse Linux 8.1. I want to try the Suse 9.0 version, hoping to overcome some of the problems I was stuck with with my 8.1.
As the instructions for the online Suse Linux for i386 installation state, the "tree is suitable for installation via ftp, http, nfs, smb or hard disk.
So I copied the whole tree to a win partition (which I can mount and use from the linux side). I prepared a part of my harddisk with new and empty swap and linux partitions (for my 9.0 and which have no mount point within the 8.1).
Booted into my linux 8.1 I have tried in the console window a lot of different entries with the "install" command. Most attempts do just nothing, others state syntax errors and one resulted in the message "cannot change the ownership - invalid ???".
What should the command be exactly? Or is it only possible to install during the boot process. If so, can I initiate the boot process from my running 8.1 version - maybe via some item of the (completely stored) 9.0 software?
Thanks for help
