I hate asking partial questions but...

during install, i have the option of putting the boot loader on / or /boot....

I think that what i am trying to say.

Any advise on either location?

thanks....next time i install i'll take notes as to the verbig

It really depends.

Do you already have another bootloader running the show? if not, you'll want it in your MBR. That way, you can boot any OS that's installed on your machine.

But, if you do have another bootloader, install it in /, or the /boot partition, if you have one. Then, you'd just point your old bootloader to the new Linux bootloader, and use it as a boot option.
