Greetings Guru's -
I have been messing around with FC 1 on a:
PIII 500 Mhz
128 mb memory (Plan on increasing when I find the proper memory)
80 GB hard drive(don't think this matters but I am putting it in anyway)
Netgear 10/100 network card
PC.
Here is what I have been experiencing. I have had to reload the system twice and during the reloads, I will get a hang up and have to start all over again from scratch. Nine times outta ten, the second one goes all the way through. I have been choosing the Desktop load and then adding some extras for development etc. With the hang ups, I am thinking I need to just take the base desktop load and then go back and upgrade the system with the extra development apps. Any idea what is causing the hang-ups? Should I go to a different distro? Once it is installed, things work very well. I can get on the net etc.
Last night, I tried to update the Kernel from 2.4. to 2.6.1 and everything was going great untill I hit the grub.conf section. Now I am reloading for the third time. Also when messing with the 2.6.1 upgrade, I noticed several modules for items that I do not have on my PC. Is there a way to stream line the kernel to make it faster and only apply to what is on my box, or should I just leave it like it is and just deal with it.
Sorry for all the questions, but I am a windows user slowly making my way to Linux. I appreciate any input that you can share with me.
Thanks!!
