you say it wont boot. Where does the process of booting fail? Is there an error message on the screen? If so, what does it say?

Did you check the iso file with the md5sum? IIRC, i believe you simply type at a prompt.

$./md5sum foo.iso

linuxiso.org should have the md5sum program (which is very small) as well as instructions on how to use it.

IN K3B, did you burn the image in RAW mode. Gentoo.Org states that the image must be burned in raw mode. K3B defaults to auto.

go into the BIOS and change the boot order so that it boots from CD first.
