Hi Guys,
Okay here's the problem. I had redaht 9 on my 40gig drive, and my daughter said she wants to chat on msn. So I thought if I load winxp pro it will give me the option to partition my hard drive. Then I could load redhat 9 after I loaded winxp pro.
So I set off on my merry way loading win all seamed ok with that, then I thought if I load redhat after it will give me the option where to install it. Loaded redhat, but wouldn't boot into winxp. But have redhat up n running okay. Still it's better I have redhat than windows.
I should try n do this sort of thing when i'm not tired I reckon, but I can't stay off my pc.
I then had a brain wave, thought if I boot off my win bootdisk I'll be able to sort it out, but all I just messed up my winxp.
So how do i delete linux then load win on a clean system ready for dualboot.
Thanks in advance.

you want to start from scratch?
if so, use fdisk, delete all partitions, and your where you started.
i would advise taht you install windows first, then redhat, as i had problems doing it the other way.

so, fdisk, delete all partitions. make a fat partition (5-10gb) install, winxp onto it.
boot of redhat cd, choose partition tool. add a new partition (preferably one for / and one for /home) in the spare space, let it install and use grub as boot loader. it should all work fine!

at least it did when i did it;)

I've heard that the Redhat installation will delete/format all partitions and only install Redhat if you select the default (auto) install option.

It would be best to start again and select a custom install where you should have control over the partitioning.

The Redhat online installation documentation should cover the different installation options. Review those before proceeding.

yeah, I almost got sucked in by that...when loading RH you have to use the DiskDruid (or whatever) to choose where you want it otherwise it sticks it on hda1 (i believe)

You must partition HDD (spit in half) and install xp on the first partition. Dont format the second partition with xp.
Then install redhat and choose to install on hdb.
Redhat will take care of the rest. I have done this numerous times and NEVER had a problem.
Just make sure you choose where you install Redhat. (hdb)

or just install AMSN on redhat and your kid can use that to chat on msn.

'hdb' would be the primary/slave drive and I believe baldyman is only referring to installing on one single HD (hda).

then it would just be something like hda2...or in my case hda5 for some reason...hda2 is my swap space [which i probably need more of, since I didn't quite understand the importance of it during install] and hda5 is my RH partition (but i think i was stupid and put in an ext2 fs)
